It’s the eve of the second Love for the Ladies event, our 1st annual, and everything seems to be falling apart. A heavy storm is closing in on Eagle County and Vail Pass is closed with Justine, Tyler and Alex stuck on the other side. Half of the “must have prizes” are still not at my house and I’m frantically running around like a wacko trying to tie up loose ends. I’m nervous, but Doug is calm as always, putting together the prize packages. He’s looking over the gigantic box from skull candy and says, “I think every prize might get a pair.” But I don’t respond; all i see is a fund raising war between two of the registered teams: Blue Moose Pizza, Extra Steeze and The RDTM Ninjas. It was getting intense and both teams were over $1000 in pledges. I think, “this is nuts,” and wish I had automated the updating process. I was sure I’d be up all night double checking the numbers. But, like always, everything works itself out. The rest of the Ride the Beav crew made it safe, as did all of the expected prizes, and we even got a few hours of sleep. And the event?, well the event was more successful than we could have ever imagined!

Love for the Ladies is a snowboarding and free skiing event at Beaver Creek Resort that raises money for The Vail Breast Cancer Awareness Group, a local non-profit that helps support the medical bills of women in our community who are diagnosed with the disease. The brainchild of local shredder Justine Nadherny, LFTL is a way for our subculture to show leadership and dedication within a community we love, but sometimes look out of place. And yes, I did read that article in the Vail Daily about how dumb we look with our pants sagged.

Our goal this year was $7,500, about $1,500 more than the debut event. It seemed within reach and based off of the online donations (primarily marketed through the RTB Facebook Page) we were close even before the event started. (As a side note: we raised so much money online, and in such a short period of time, that PayPal froze the LFTL account to confirm our intentions were not fraudulent—hence this post’s delay).

Well, with out any further adieu…It is our pleasure to announce that we collectively raised $11,319.59. Boo Ya!
